Adult Education

Brevard Adult/Community Education-This site lists the many adult education programs at centers throughout Brevard County.

English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) - Classes teach communication skills and cultural competencies and Citizenship. Classes prepare ESOL students for success in the naturalization process. These are offered through the School Board's Adult/Community Education program at various centers throughout the county.

GED Preparation - Classes offered through the Brevard Adult/Community Education program at various centers throughout the county. Testing is scheduled twice monthly at the Educational Services Facility in Viera. Call the GED Testing Office at 633-1000 ext.377 weekdays, 11:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

The Distance Education and Training Council - This is a non-profit educational association and sponsors an accrediting agency. Use this site to find accredited distance education programs.

Globewide Network Academy - A consortium of institutions offering distance learning programs. Over 17,000 courses are searchable by topic or by sponsor.

World Wide Learn - This site is a directory of online education and degrees.

Blue Web'n - Designed for educators interested in finding curriculum resources on the Internet, this site provides categorized lists of curricula, projects, online resources and tools, and classroom activities.

Busy Teachers' WebSite K-12 - A multitude of links to Internet sites on topics such as art, biology, English, mathematics, physics, social studies, paleontology, astronomy, computer technology, and more.

DiscoverySchool - Offers lesson plans, classroom activities forteachers and students using the resources of the Discovery channel, Learning Channel, Animal Planet, and Travel Channel.

EDSITEment - This cooperative program between the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Council of the Great City Schools, MCI Worldcom, and the National Trust for the Humanities, this site offers teachers of humanities lesson plans and recommended sites for integrating the vast wealth of information on the Internet into their classrooms.

Education World - Offers extensive information on, and over 115,000 links to, many facets of education.: teacher, administrator and student resources, interactive learning, school projects, reference materials and more. Sites are annotated and reviewed.

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) - Database associated with the U.S. Department of Education providing abstracts and articles relevant to educational issues.

Kathy Schrock’s Guide for Educators - This guide is an extensive classified list of sites on the Internet useful for enhancing curriculum and teacher professional growth.

Reading Answers - Information and free resources for teachers, parents and tutors who help children learn to read. Other parenting resources, ideas, projects and strategies are included.

U.S. Department of Education - This site contains information for teachers, students, and all those interested in government-related programs and initiatives. User friendly features are a list of most requested publications and easy access to statistics on school districts and nationwide student achievement.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - Required of students applying for federal and state financial aid and for many colleges and universities, especially public institutions.

FastWeb (Financial Aid Search Through the Web) - This site lists itself as "the internet's largest free scholarship search"

Federal School Code Search - Find or verify a Federal School Code for use when completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Florida Prepaid College Plan and the Florida College Investment Plan - Sponsored by the State of Florida to assist families with the cost of higher education.

Florida Student Aid Programs - Information about the Bright Futures Scholarships, etc. are listed by the Office for Student Financial Assistance, Florida Board of Education.

FinAid - An extremely large site which provides access to a wide variety of financial aid resources. There are links to other scholarship databases for all levels of higher education.

Financial Aid Resource Center - A free service offered by a financial aid administrator to guide students through the application process. Links to scholarships, grants, work programs, and loans and lenders for adults, graduate and international students

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) - This is a government-wide compendium of Federal programs, projects, services, and activities, which provide assistance or benefits to the American public. It contains financial and non-financial assistance programs administered by departments and establishments of the Federal government.

Foundation Finder - A free lookup tool that provides basic facts on approximately 46,000 U.S. foundations. Designed for those seeking quick access to core information about a foundation, possibly as a starting point for more in-depth research.

Fundraising Opportunities – Goes beyond seeking grants; gives ideas, success stories, techniques, and tips for raising funds, especially for education.

NFIE Education Grants & Programs - National Education Association’s (NEA) Foundation for the Improvement of Education site. Links to sites for grants and awards related to innovative teaching and educational programs.

Florida Parent-Educators Association (FPEA) - This site lists FPEA recognized homeschool organizations in Brevard County as well as various legal, educational and scholarship resources.

Home Education - The Florida Department of Education provides resources for home schooling.

Jon’s Homeschool Resource Page - May be one of the oldest collections of homeschool resources on the Web, offering information and links to a wealth of homeschooling topics: parenting resources, local support groups, curriculum vendors, newsgroups, homeschoolers’ Web pages.

Selecting a School

Colleges & Universities:

College and University Rankings - Find links to various sites which provide statistical rankings and reputations of colleges.

College Board Online's College Search - College Search allows you to limit your search for the right college or university by degree type and then by sort by fields of study, specific location, type of school, etc.

CollegeNET - Provides links to college web sites in the U.S., Canada and New Zealand. There is access to financial aid and scholarship information. You can also file applications online and obtain material about standardized tests.

FACTS.org - Florida's Academic Counseling and Tracking for Students. Sponsored by the Department of Education and the Florida Center for Advising & Academic Support, this free online advising website helps students plan and track their education progress from middle school through college. The site includes links to Florida's community colleges, colleges and universities and career-technical centers.

Petersons.com - This publisher of educational directories offers searching for private secondary schools, colleges, religious affiliated schools, graduate schools, distance learning, study abroad, and summer programs, and tips on choosing and applying to colleges.

Community Colleges or Vocational Schools:

Community College Web - This site allows you to search for 2-year post-secondary institutions located in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere.

Training and Seminar Locators - Search by subject for professional training.

Vocational Schools Database - Provides a database of private postsecondary vocational schools in all 50 states, organized first by State, then by training occupation. .All the schools listed are state licensed/accredited. There are also links to financial aid and occupational outlook information.


Graduate Schools:

Gradschools.com - Lists a large number graduate programs available worldwide, on-campus and distance learning

Peterson’s GradSchools - Search over 35,000 graduate program descriptions, links to testing and financial aid.


Public Schools:

Brevard County Public Schools - Offers school board meeting minutes and rules, calendars, menus, statistics on students and tests, and more.

Public School Search - The National Center for Education Statistics provides a database of primary and secondary schools in the U.S. with statistical information. The National Center for Education Statistics is part of the United States Department of Education.

Florida Department of Education - Offers parents, teachers, and students information and statistics about programs and policies, such as school choice, Sunshine State Standards of performance, school calendars, school safety, and more.

Florida School Indicators Report - Provides data on every school in Florida allowing quick comparison between schools.

Private Schools:

Test Preparation

FCAT Explorer - A practice and skills reinforcement tool for reading and math and includes other topics from several areas of the Sunshine State Standards.

GED Practice Tests - Free online practice test from Steck-Vaughn. Registration is required.

LearnATest - Test preparation materials and interactive practice exams, based on official tests, that will help you improve your scores on academic, civil service, military, and professional licensing and certification exams. Users must first register at their local library to use at this database at home.
